Biden warns consumers to be aware of telephone tax, lottery/sweepstakes scams

Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden today alerted consumers to be on the lookout for two unrelated telephone scams that have targeted large numbers of consumers in Delaware and beyond. The scammers appear to be randomly targeting victims, claiming that victims owe back taxes to the government, or owe processing fees to collect a sweepstakes prize.




Biden’s office sponsors three prescription drug drop-off sites for Saturday “Take Back” events

Attorney General Beau Biden’s office is sponsoring three consumer prescription drug drop-off sites Saturday, September 27, in support of Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, a national effort to reduce prescription drug abuse. Take-Back Day is sponsored by the federal Drug Enforcement Administration, in conjunction with state and local law enforcement and healthcare organizations, and Biden’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit is sponsoring three drop-off sites out of thirty sites offered statewide.

Attorney General Beau Biden announced that his Consumer Protection Unit is hosting three free consumer shredding events this fall to help consumers guard against identity theft. Each event will feature free on-site document shredding and staff will be on-hand to provide information and answer questions about consumer frauds and scams.




J.P. Morgan Securities to pay $51,400 to Biden’s Investor Protection Unit

Attorney General Beau Biden announced Thursday that J.P. Morgan Securities has paid the Delaware Department of Justice $51,400 as a result of a settlement with the Attorney General’s Investor Protection Unit. The settlement resolves a multi-state investigation which found that J.P. Morgan Securities failed to ensure that its agents were properly registered in Delaware and other states, and failed to properly record data on trades executed in Delaware and other states.




Pfizer to pay $35 million to resolve allegations of improper marketing of popular organ transplant drug

Attorney General Beau Biden announced today that his office has joined 41 other State Attorneys General in reaching a $35 million nationwide settlement with Pfizer Inc, as parent of Wyeth Pharmaceuticals Inc., over allegations the company unlawfully promoted Rapamune, an immunosuppressive drug currently approved by the FDA for use in preventing organ rejection after kidney transplant surgery.
