Delaware Confirms First Kent County Influenza Case for 2015 – 2016

The Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH) reports the state’s first Kent County laboratory-confirmed case of influenza for the 2015-2016 flu season. The case involves a 33-year-old Kent County woman who is recovering at home.




Office of Animal Welfare Hosts Training on Emergency Sheltering for Companion Animals

When severe weather forces people to leave their homes, no one wants to leave their pets behind. To ensure there is a place in Delaware shelters for pets, the Office of Animal Welfare’s Delaware Animal Response (DAR) program hosted an interactive, two-day training on how to set up emergency shelters for companion animals. The approximately 30 attendees are volunteers for the State Animal Response Team (SART), including animal rescuers, veterinarians or veterinary technicians, animal control officers, and members of the public who have an interest in disaster preparedness and response.




GOVERNOR MARKELL AND PUBLIC HEALTH URGE FLU VACCINATION

At the annual Division of Public Health (DPH) flu immunization clinic at the New Castle Farmers Market, Governor Jack Markell urged Delawareans age six months and older to get their annual flu vaccination as early as possible. Then he pushed up his sleeve to receive his own flu shot.

With the potential for heavy rain and high winds this weekend, the Division of Public Health (DPH) reminds Delawareans to stay safe and healthy, and to protect their pets using some important tips.

National studies show that the majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, and that includes the home medicine cabinet. That’s why the Division of Public Health’s Healthy Homes Program is coordinating the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday September 12, 2015 between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
