Spring Stopover Puts Delaware at Center of Annual Shorebird Migration Phenomenon
Thousands of shorebirds of different species pause their marathon migration – while enroute from wintering in South America back to their Arctic breeding grounds – to refuel in Delaware Bay. The spectacle of the shorebirds feasting on horseshoe crab eggs for energy to get them home for breeding season is in full view – and under the watchful eye of the DNREC Delaware Shorebird Project.
DNREC’s DuPont Nature Center to Reopen April 1
The DuPont Nature Center at the Mispillion Harbor Reserve welcomes visitors for the 2026 season when it reopens Wednesday, April 1. The DNREC facility, managed by the Division of Fish and Wildlife, will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays in April, adding Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from May through August.
Visitors of All Ages Invited to Celebrate Earth Month with Events at DNREC’s DuPont Nature Center
Visitors to DNREC’s DuPont Nature Center near Milford are invited to celebrate Earth Month by attending special programs in April while enjoying the views of Mispillion Harbor and learning more about the Delaware River and Bay, including a beach cleanup, storybook time for children and a presentation about the Delaware Wildlife Action Plan.
