In appreciation of the service and dedication of Delaware’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel, Governor Jack Markell proclaimed May 15 – 21, 2016 as National Emergency Medical Services Week.




Delaware Public Health and CDC Honor Michelle Power with Childhood Immunization Champion Award

Michelle P. Power, BS, MT (ASCP), from Christiana Care Health System, has been named Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Childhood Immunization Champion for her outstanding efforts to promote childhood immunizations in Delaware.




Delaware Public Health Announces Three New Flu-Related Deaths

Delaware’s Division of Public Health (DPH) reported three more flu-related deaths for the 2015-2016 flu season, bringing the total to six. The three new fatalities involved two New Castle County residents, a 69-year-old female (Influenza A H1N1 – Swine) and a 54-year-old male (Influenza B); and a Sussex County resident, a 42-year-old female. All had underlying health conditions.




Dispose of Expired and Unused Medicines for Free at April 30 Drug Take-Back Day and Permanent Collection Sites

To improve safety in our homes and communities, the Division of Public Health (DPH), the Medical Society of Delaware, and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) announced the 12th National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day for Saturday, April 30, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.




DNREC Mosquito Control Section’s spraying season begins with larviciding wooded wetlands

DOVER – Weather-permitting, DNREC’s Mosquito Control Section will begin its annual spring woodland-pool spraying campaign downstate Saturday, March 19 and upstate Tuesday, March 22, treating wooded wetlands near select populated areas in New Castle, Kent and Sussex counties.
