Delaware Employers Urged to Take Advantage of Veterans Opportunity Tax Credit

Former Governor Jack Markell (2009-2017) | Office of the Governor | Date Posted: Friday, March 7, 2014

February 28, 2014 –With the return of the Delaware National Guard’s 198th Expeditionary Signal Battalion, Delaware Governor Jack A. Markell, reminds employers about the state’s Veteran’s Opportunity Tax Credit.

“Military veterans possess skills that strengthen our workforce and we should do everything we can to help these men and women find gainful employment when they return home,” said Gov. Markell. “We are grateful to local employers who support Delaware veterans and we, in turn, want to ensure they take advantage of the tax credit available to them.”

The credit, signed into law by Governor Markell in August 2012, offers Delaware employers up to $1,500 a year – for three years – for each veteran hired.  To qualify for the credit, veterans must have received an Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, or a Global War On Terrorism Expeditionary Medal. They must also be hired between January 1, 2012 and January 1, 2016.
