Wilmington, DE – Governor Markell issued the following statement in reaction to the video used by New Castle County Police this past weekend to make two arrests of teenagers charged in the attacking and beating of a young man with a developmental disability:
“I am horrified and sickened by the actions of the young people seen and heard in these videos. The images not only are disgusting for the physical harm done to the victim. They are also an affront to our most important values, which recognize that every person deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.
“I have full confidence in our law enforcement community’s ability to identify and punish the perpetrators of these attacks. We must send the strongest possible message that this behavior is unacceptable and reprehensible, while using this incident as a reminder of the importance of our mission to root out bullying from our communities.”
