Absentee voting for the November 6, 2018 General Election has started

Wilmington – Absentee voting for the November 6, 2018, General Election has started.  Registered voters may vote by absentee ballot for a reason stated in the Delaware Constitution.  New Castle County absentee voters must return their voted absentee ballots to the New Castle County Office no later than 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, in order for the Department to count them.

Citizens in New Castle County eligible to vote by absentee ballot may vote in-person starting October 8th or by mail.  They can vote by absentee ballot at the New Castle County Office or the New Castle County Warehouse on the dates and at the times listed on the in-person schedule.

The U. S. Postal Service recommends that citizens within the United States mail their absentee ballots to their Election Office at least 7 days before the day the election.

Citizens living outside the United States returning a voted absentee ballot by mail, should send it via Air Mail in sufficient time for it to arrive by 8 p.m. on November 6, 2018.

The Delaware Code restricts the electronic delivery and return of absentee ballots to members of a Uniformed Service, their dependents, citizens living outside the United States, and people with a disability.

Delaware provides absentee voting services to Delaware citizens:

  • Within the United States,
  • Who are members of a Uniformed Service and their family (living both within and outside the US), or
  • Living outside the United States.

Delaware citizens living in the United States can request an absentee ballot:

  • Fastest – Online via the IVOTE system,
  • Slower – By printing an application, completing it, and emailing or mailing it to the New Castle County Office.
  • Slowest – By asking the New Castle County Office ( (302) 577-3464) to email or mail you an Absentee Application. Then, completing the form and emailing or mailing it to the New Castle County Office.

Uniformed service members and their family members as well as citizens living outside the United States, get the most efficient absentee service by submitting a Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) to the New Castle County Office. They can do this:
