25-state coalition files briefs in Bankruptcy Court

Attorney General Kathy Jennings, along with a bipartisan group of 24 attorneys general, filed today two briefs opposing a request by Purdue Pharma to stop all lawsuits against the company and the Sackler family.

“The Sacklers extracted up to $13 billion from Purdue while drugs like OxyContin wreaked havoc on Delaware,” said Attorney General Jennings. “Now, after walking away from Purdue with as much money as they could carry and sending its remains into bankruptcy, these multi-billionaires expect to keep their ill-gotten gains and to be held blameless for their role in the crisis. The families who have been hurt by this epidemic deserve true justice, and I will not rest until the Sacklers have paid for the damage they’ve done.”

Joining Delaware in today’s briefs are the attorneys general of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia.

Oral arguments on the briefs have been scheduled for Friday, October 11.
