A 73-year-old Delaware man has pled guilty for his involvement in the 2024 death of Kevin Harris.
On March 14, Bernard Stewart of Wilmington pled guilty to Manslaughter and Possession of a Destructive Weapon. The plea follows an investigation led by the Wilmington Police Department.
“This senseless tragedy was the result of guns being used as a permanent solution to a temporary dispute,” said Attorney General Kathy Jennings. “This was a terrible and preventable loss, and our hearts remain with the victim’s family at this difficult time.”
“I hope this guilty plea brings some measure of comfort to the victim’s family, in the wake of this senseless act of violence,” said Chief Wilfredo Campos. “I applaud our patrol officers and investigators for their prompt actions to make an arrest in this case, and thank the Department of Justice for their efforts to hold this offender accountable for his actions.”
On July 4, 2024, Kevin Harris, 49, was sitting on the defendant’s porch in the area of North Lombard Street and East 10th Street in Wilmington when an altercation ensued between them. Stewart, feeling threatened due to a previous altercation with Harris, shot him once in the head with a shotgun. Harris was pronounced dead on-scene.
