DPH Encourages Everyone to Know Your HIV Status – “It’s Empowering”

The Division of Public Health (DPH) is encouraging Delawareans aged 13 to 64 that have not already done so to get a human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) test. Although more than 3,500 people are known to be living with HIV in Delaware, one in ten of those infected don’t know they have the disease. That means that 400 people in Delaware may be infected but are unaware, posing a risk not only to their own health, but also to the health of others as well.




Division of Public Health Announces Two New Zika Cases in Delaware Males

The Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH) announced two New Castle County men have tested positive for the Zika virus bringing the total number of cases in Delaware to seven. All of the Zika positive test results are due to a mosquito bite while traveling abroad and none involve a pregnancy. Both men were tested in June following recent travel. Zika is spread primarily through mosquito bite but can also be sexually transmitted from male to female or passed from mother to fetus during pregnancy.

While Delaware has yet to experience a significant heat wave in 2016, the Division of Public Health (DPH) is taking the opportunity at the beginning of the summer to remind residents to prepare for excessive heat as the temperatures start to go up.




Delaware Announces Fifth Zika Case From Travel Abroad

The Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH) announced today a fifth Zika case following on the heels of the Friday announcement of a fourth case. The new case is a New Castle County adult male who traveled in May. Like the four other cases, the person acquired the illness from a mosquito bite while traveling abroad.

Adults and youth struggling with grief or wanting to learn more about local lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community resources, can call 2-1-1 in Delaware.
