Fawning season for white-tailed deer has begun in Delaware, with the majority of fawns being born during the last week of May through the first week of June. Every year, during this time, well-meaning Delawareans make calls to DNREC’s Division of Fish & Wildlife because they think they’ve found “abandoned” fawns.

CAPE HENLOPEN – Governor John Carney and DNREC Secretary Shawn M. Garvin today announced renovations at Cape Henlopen State Park highlighting the newly improved campground and new amenities at the park’s Seaside Nature Center and Fort Miles Historical Area.




DNREC kicks off National Safe Boating Week May 20-26 in Lewes

With summer just ahead, boaters soon will be heading out on the water, many of them for the first time over the Memorial Day weekend, the traditional start of boating season. DNREC’s Division of Fish & Wildlife’s Office of Boating Safety and Education encourages boaters to practice safe boating, not just over the big holiday weekend, but throughout the year.

To achieve public compliance through education and enforcement actions that help conserve Delaware’s fish and wildlife resources and ensure safe boating and public safety, Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police officers between May 8-14 made 2,398 contacts with anglers, boaters and the general public, including 94 vessel boardings for boating safety and fishing regulation compliance checks, issuing 16 citations.




DNREC’s Division of Fish & Wildlife to begin treating downstate ponds for nuisance aquatic weeds

With inland water temperatures rising and aquatic plants emerging, DNREC’s Division of Fish & Wildlife will begin annual treatment of downstate public-access ponds for nuisance aquatic weeds this week. Ponds to be treated this year are Tubmill Pond near Milford, Wagamons Pond in Milton and Millsboro Pond.
