For the upcoming Memorial Day holiday weekend, DNREC’s Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police remind boaters that drinking and boating don’t mix – and that boat operators with blood alcohol levels of .08 or higher risk facing charges for operating under the influence (OUI), as well as putting themselves, their passengers and other boaters in Delaware waters at risk.




DNREC Secretary’s Order approves issuance of permits for construction and operation of City of Rehoboth Beach ocean outfall

Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control Secretary Shawn M. Garvin today signed an order enabling the City of Rehoboth Beach to move forward with construction of an outfall that will discharge the city’s treated wastewater into the Atlantic Ocean, eliminating the largest remaining point source discharge into Delaware’s Inland Bays.




Think twice before ‘rescuing’ young wildlife

Whether in their backyards or while taking a walk outdoors, Delawareans are likely to encounter young wildlife this time of year. While some young animals appear to be abandoned, usually they are not. It’s likely that their mothers are watching over them somewhere nearby. The Division of Fish & Wildlife would like to remind well-meaning Delawareans that when encountering young wildlife, regardless of species, the best thing people can do is to leave the animals alone.

As part of activities for National Fishing and Boating Week, June 3-11, DNREC’s Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police will hold its 31st Annual Youth Fishing Tournament from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, June 3 at Ingrams Pond in Millsboro, Akridge Scout Reservation in Camden and at the dog training area of Lums Pond State Park in Bear.




DNREC reports nine piping plover pairs incubating nests at Cape Henlopen’s Point and Fowler Beach

With summer just around the corner, beachnesting birds are in full breeding mode, with piping plover and American oystercatcher nests increasing their Delaware numbers and least terns making nest scrapes.
