Opening of trails along C&D Canal celebrated by Delaware, Maryland officials

The grand opening of recreational trails along the Chesapeake and Delaware (C&D) Canal was celebrated by Delaware and Maryland officials who included Governor Jack Markell, U.S. Senators Tom Carper and Chris Coons, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Lt. Col. Michael Bliss, USDA Rural Development State Director Bill McGowan, DNREC Secretary David Small, DelDOT Secretary Jennifer Cohan, Delaware State Senator Nicole Poore, Delaware City Mayor Stanley Green and Chesapeake City Mayor Dean Geracimos. They were joined by other officials, scores of trails partners and enthusiasts, and special guest, former Delaware Governor and Congressman Michael N. Castle.

To achieve public compliance through education and enforcement actions that help conserve Delaware’s fish and wildlife resources and ensure safe boating and public safety, Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police officers between Jan. 2-8 made 1026 contacts with anglers, hunters, boaters and the general public, including 31 vessel boardings for boating safety, hunting and fishing regulation compliance checks, issuing 34 citations.
