DNREC to conduct water-quality dye test in Murderkill River and Delaware Bay to evaluate bay oyster beds

DOVER – The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control’s Delaware Shellfish Program and Kent County Levy Court will conduct a week-long water quality study starting June 10 in the Murderkill River and Delaware Bay to evaluate the bay’s oyster beds. The study calls for applications of the red dye Rhodamine WT, which is commonly used in water quality and dispersion tests, and is not considered harmful to the public or the environment.

With the 2019 summer season and ideal weather ahead, many boaters will soon be heading out on the water. DNREC’s Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police Office of Boating Safety & Education encourages boaters to practice safe boating, not just during National Safe Boating Week from May 18-24 – but throughout the year.

DNREC’s Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police are endorsing “Wear Your Life Jacket to Work Day” on Friday, May 17.




DNREC Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police Blotter: April 29-May 5

To achieve public compliance with laws and regulations through education and enforcement actions that help conserve Delaware’s fish and wildlife resources and ensure safe boating and public safety, DNREC’s Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police officers between April 29-May 5 made 2,584 contacts with anglers, boaters, hunters, and the general public, issuing 40 citations. Officers responded to 63 complaints regarding possible violations of laws and regulations or requests to assist the public.




DNREC to hold public workshops April 16 on gasoline vapors and proposed Underground Storage Tank regulations

The Division of Air Quality and the Tank Management Section within the Division of Waste & Hazardous Substances will hold two public workshop next month.
