McMaster Technique Offers Delaware Livestock Producers and Veterinarians More Options in Herd Health

he Delaware Department of Agriculture (DDA) announced beginning October 15, 2024, the cost of fecal analysis testing performed by the Poultry and Animal Health Section will increase to $3.00 per sample.
The Poultry and Animal Health Section will begin offering livestock fecal sample analysis using the McMaster technique for relevant livestock species, and the current qualitative fecal float testing will still be performed as appropriate by species.




Delaware Confirms Initial Cases of West Nile Virus in a Human, Horses for 2024

The Delaware Public Health Laboratory has identified this year’s first human case of West Nile Virus (WNV) in a New Castle County resident. Additionally, the Office of the State Veterinarian within the Delaware Department of Agriculture has confirmed the first two cases of WNV in Delaware horses this year.




Mark Short Named Administrator of Delaware Standardbred Breeders’ Fund

The Delaware Department of Agriculture announced today that Mark Short has been named the new Delaware Standardbred Breeders’ Fund (DESBF) administrator. He will begin his new role as the DESBF administrator on November 1.




Delaware Experiences Increase in West Nile Virus Equine Cases

The Office of the State Veterinarian announced Delaware has had five confirmed cases and one suspected case of West Nile Virus (WNV) recently reported in Delaware horses. These are the first Delaware cases of WNV in horses in 2023, with the cases occurring between September 9 and October 16, 2023.
