2016 Coastal Cleanup drew more than 1,500 volunteers who collected 6 tons of trash and recyclables from 45 sites

This year’s DNREC-sponsored 29th annual Delaware Coastal Cleanup held Sept. 17 drew 1,572 volunteers, who collected 6 tons of trash from 45 sites along more than 75 miles of Delaware’s waterways and coastline stretching from Wilmington to Fenwick Island. About one-quarter of that trash – mostly aluminum cans and glass and plastic beverage bottles – was recycled this year.




DNREC, Kalmar Nyckel Foundation to showcase recently-established sustainable landscaping project at Wilmington shipyard Oct. 18

DNREC’s Division of Waste & Hazardous Substances and the Kalmar Nyckel Foundation invite the public to join in an event at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18 showcasing established sustainable landscaping at the Kalmar Nyckel Foundation shipyard, 1124 East 7th Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.




9th Annual Blackbird Creek Fall Festival to celebrate Delaware’s natural treasures Saturday, Oct. 15

The Delaware National Estuarine Research Reserve (DNERR) and DNREC will showcase one of the most natural areas in Delaware – which includes autumn’s vibrant foliage within the lush landscape and pristine waters of the Blackbird Creek Reserve – with the 9th Annual Blackbird Creek Fall Festival to be held Saturday, Oct. 15 on the Delaware Bayshore Byway.




DuPont Nature Center closed, reopening April 1, 2017

The DuPont Nature Center at Mispillion Harbor Reserve has closed for the year, and will reopen Saturday, April 1, 2017 for the busy spring and summer seasons.




DNREC Shoreline & Waterway Management Section to make public presentation on revised beach regulations Oct. 21 in Bethany Beach

DNREC’s Division of Watershed Stewardship’s Shoreline & Waterway Management Section will make a public informational presentation on Delaware’s revised beach regulations Oct. 21 in Bethany Beach. The presentation will take place from 1 – 3 p.m. at the South Coastal Library, 43 Kent Avenue, Bethany Beach, DE, 19930.
