Criminal Division | Department of Justice | Department of Justice Press Releases | Family | Date Posted: Monday, July 23, 2012

Wilmington – The Delaware Attorney General’s Office announced today that it has secured the indictment of Newark Doctor Pierre Leroy on multiple sex charges.  Leroy was originally arrested in May after Newark Police received and investigated a report from a patient of unlawful sexual contact by the doctor during a medical examination.  The criminal investigation, conducted in coordination with the Attorney General’s Office and the Division of Professional Regulations, continued after the May 4 arrest, and resulted Leroy’s indictment on twenty counts involving a total of six adult victims.
The indictment charges Leroy with 11 counts of Unlawful Sexual Contact 3rd Degree, 3 counts of Attempted Unlawful Sexual Contact 3rd Degree, and 6 counts of Sexual Harassment.  Leroy turned himself in to authorities Friday and was arraigned in Superior Court.  He was released after posting $40,000 unsecured bond.

Following Leroy’s May arrest the Attorney General’s Office petitioned the Secretary of State and President of the Board of Medical Licensure and Discipline to immediately suspend Leroy’s medical license, and they ordered the emergency suspension of his license on May 8.

The investigation is ongoing.  Anyone with information to share with police should contact Detective Nicholas Sansone of the Newark Police Department at (302) 366-7110 x 135 or nicholas.sansone@cj.state.de.us.

The Delaware Department of Justice reminds the public that an indictment is merely an allegation and is not evidence of guilt. Defendants are presumed innocent and are entitled to a jury trial at which the State bears the burden of proving each charge beyond a reasonable doubt.
