Governor’s Weekly Message Transcript: Using Technology and Collaboration to Support Our Veterans

Former Governor Jack Markell (2009-2017) | News | Date Posted: Friday, June 21, 2013

We appropriately celebrate our veterans and military families on special occasions throughout the year. Yet, just as they sacrifice for us day after day when they are in uniform, we have an obligation to ensure that they receive consistent and reliable access to the services that they’ve earned.

This week, we launched the Veterans Services Directory, an online searchable database of organizations that assist Delaware’s military personnel, veterans and their families. This public-private partnership represents an innovative way to connect those in need to the many resources available to them. The goal is to provide a single access point to an array of services, including VA benefits, housing, job search materials, medical care and more.

About thirty organizations have already signed up, posting information that ranges from program descriptions to social media links and videos. To enhance the user experience, V-S-D is searchable by geographic location and type of service, while also offering quick links to important state and federal veterans’ agencies. For all of the great intentions involved in setting up this system, it will only be as useful as the information it contains. So, I encourage every organization with initiatives designed for our Veterans and military families to register for free today. Help us get the word out about what can be a valuable tool. With your involvement, we can make this site a comprehensive guide to public agencies, private companies and not-for-profit groups.

You can access the Veterans Services Directory and learn more at https://delaware.gov/VSD. Working together, we can make this effort worthy of the heroes it supports and keep Delaware moving forward.
