A New Castle man has been sentenced to decades of prison time in the conclusion to a Newark murder that lay cold for more than 12 years.
On February 20, Alando Dale was sentenced in Superior Court to 30 years in prison, suspended after 20 years and followed by probation. Dale, 35, had previously pleaded guilty to Murder 2nd Degree in September of 2024 following an investigation into the fatal Newark drug deal that led to the death of Peter DiSabatino in 2012.
“It is always a tragedy when guns are used as permanent solutions to temporary problems,” said Attorney General Kathy Jennings. “Justice was served – but nothing can undo the harm done, the life taken, or the families scarred by loss. I am grateful to our prosecutors and New Castle County Police Department for their work in securing justice for this tragic loss. Our hearts are with the victim’s family.”
“We would like to acknowledge the resilience and strength of the DiSabatino family during this difficult journey,” said New Castle County Police Chief Colonel Jamie Leonard. “This outcome was made possible due to the relentless work by the NCCPD Criminal Investigations Unit and a thorough investigation led by past and present Cold Case Investigators. Their determination to seek justice for victims and their families is truly commendable and we hope this outcome can bring a sense of closure to everyone involved.”
On November 12, 2012, Alando Dale and one of his associates met with Peter DiSabatino in Disabatino’s car to exchange money for two ounces of marijuana near the Studio Green Apartment complex in Newark, Delaware. DiSabatino was paid $800 in counterfeit bills. A confrontation ensued when DiSabatino discovered that the money was counterfeit and Alando Dale shot him two times in the chest. DiSabatino died of his wounds on the way to the hospital.
