A Wilmington man has pled guilty to second-degree murder and related charges for the  May 2022 shooting death of Uquan Davis and a second robbery that occurred one week later.

“Nothing can bring Uquan Davis back and my heart goes out to his family,” Attorney General Kathleen Jennings said. “The person responsible for Uquan’s death will spend a long time in prison. I want to thank the Wilmington Police Department for its work to investigate and make an arrest in this case.”

Derris Lloyd, 20, entered a guilty plea on March 24 in New Castle County Superior Court to one count of second-degree murder, two counts of first-degree robbery and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He faces a minimum mandatory sentence of 27 years in prison when he is sentenced, which is scheduled for June 27, 2025. The State agreed to limit its recommendation to a 35-year sentence as part of the plea bargain.

Uquan Davis, who was  20 years old when he was killed, was sitting in his car on the 1300 block of Anchorage Street in Wilmington when Lloyd shot him before stealing his car.  Davis later died from the gunshot wounds. Lloyd, who was identified as a suspect by the Wilmington Police Department, was arrested by WPD officers on May 14, 2022.
