DNREC Division of Parks & Recreation’s 2nd Annual Booo-B-Que family BBQ competition set for Oct. 21-22

REHOBOTH BEACH – DNREC’s Division of Parks & Recreation will host the second-annual “Booo-B-Que By the Sea,” a two-day barbeque cook-off competition beginning Friday, Oct. 21, at Delaware Seashore State Park. The event features a wide variety of family-friendly activities, including a unique 5k Run/Walk over the Indian River Bridge and inlet pathways on Saturday, Oct. 22.




DuPont Nature Center closed, reopening April 1, 2017

The DuPont Nature Center at Mispillion Harbor Reserve has closed for the year, and will reopen Saturday, April 1, 2017 for the busy spring and summer seasons.




Zika: Back-To-School and New Delaware Cases

School is in full swing but the official end of summer does not mean the end of mosquito season. Mosquitoes can breed and bite for another several weeks in Delaware. To prevent the spread of Zika and any mosquito-borne illness, the Division of Public Health (DPH) and Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) reminds you that stopping the mosquito bite is still the best protection against disease. Delaware now has 15 Zika cases, including four not previously announced. All cases were caused by mosquito bites while traveling abroad.

With many of Delaware’s hunting seasons already open or opening soon, plan on pointing your camera afield in the months ahead and perhaps catching a hunter in a duck blind or deer stand or otherwise pursuing their favorite game animal or bird. DNREC’s Division of Fish & Wildlife invites you to enter your hunting photographs in the 2016/17 Delaware Hunting Photo Contest.




DNREC postpones Thursday, Sept. 29 Clean Power Plan public workshop for New Castle County; will be rescheduled

DOVER – DNREC’s Division of Air Quality planned to hold three public workshops this week to share information with Delawareans on climate change, the EPA’s Clean Power Plan (CPP) and how Delaware intends to comply with it, as well as advising the public on how to take advantage of related grants and other programs offered by DNREC’s Division of Energy & Climate. One workshop was planned for each county, but a scheduling conflict has forced postponement of the New Castle County workshop originally set for Thursday, Sept. 29.
