Inmate Death – Curtis McAllister

Curtis McAllister, age 57, an inmate at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center died at Kent General Hospital on Sunday, November 2, 2014 of natural causes following a lengthy illness.




Delaware Probation Officers keeping sex offenders off the streets this Halloween

Registered sex offenders on probation in Delaware are being kept off the streets this Halloween in the interest of public safety as a condition of their supervision by the Department of Correction. Each year on Halloween night, the Department of Correction imposes special conditions on all high risk sex offenders and sex offenders with child victims who are under the supervision of Probation and Parole, requiring them to remain inside their home with outside lights turned off beginning at 6 p.m. Friday.

Building on efforts to address employment obstacles for ex-offenders, the Senate today passed legislation to allow the Department of Correction to hire qualified ex-offenders into a short-term job training program and give those who have paid their debt to society a better opportunity to reintegrate into our communities.

A coastal grass planting effort capitalizing on Department of Correction’s VOP (violation of probation) laborers and privately-donated resources will help DNREC’s Division of Watershed Stewardship bolster the north side of the Indian River Inlet against lost or displaced sand from future weather events.




DNREC’s Sportsmen Against Hunger program distributes nearly 19,000 pounds of venison to Delawareans in need

During the 2012-2013 deer season, hunters donated 18,761 pounds of venison from 708 deer to the Delaware Sportsmen Against Hunger Program. DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife staff is working to distribute the frozen ground venison to more than 30 charitable organizations and food pantries throughout the state to provide meals for needy Delawareans.
