Supporting Delaware growers to meet third party food safety trends

Delaware fruit and vegetable growers can now receive financial support in obtaining a third party audit to verify they are following effective food safety practices. The Delaware Department of Agriculture (DDA) is extending its Food Safety Audit Cost-Share Program for growers to include any third party food safety audit, not just USDA Harmonized GAP audits.




75 schools to participate in fresh fruit, vegetable program

In the 2017-18 school year, 75 elementary schools in Delaware will receive funding to participate in the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program. Schools were awarded funding through a competitive application process.




Collaboration leads to largest round of Delaware farmland preservation in several years

“I am proud to announce the largest round of Delaware farmland permanently preserved through the Delaware Agricultural Lands Preservation Program in the last several years. This is a result of federal funding from the Natural Resources Conservation Service and funding from both New Castle County and Kent County,” said Delaware Secretary of Agriculture Michael Scuse. More than 124,000 acres of Delaware farmland are now permanently preserved for future generations, with 3,039 acres of easements selected into the state’s preservation program.




Governor’s 2017 Agricultural and Urban Conservation Award winners honored

Governor Carney, along with DNREC Secretary Garvin and officials with the Delaware Association of Conservation Districts and the USDA, led a ceremony recognizing this year’s Governor’s Agricultural and Urban Conservation Awards honorees and signed a proclamation officially designating April 30-May 7 as Soil and Water Stewardship Week in Delaware.




Charter School of Wilmington Team A wins 2017 Delaware Envirothon state championship

Charter School of Wilmington Team A won the 2017 Delaware Envirothon competition held April 27 at University of Delaware’s Webb Farm in Newark, marking the school’s 18th win in the event’s 22-year history, including an unbroken winning streak since 2002.
