The Office of Governor Matt Meyer is seeking candidates to be nominated for Delaware’s obligatory seat on the Mid-Atlantic Fisheries Management Council (MAFMC). To be eligible for consideration as the Gov. Meyer’s nominee to the MAFMC seat by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), individuals must be Delaware residents and have relevant fisheries background, experience and the ability to serve as a council member, including travel to a number of fisheries management meetings annually.

DNREC Secretary Shawn M. Garvin is moving on from public service after leading the Department for eight years during the Carney Administration, with his immediate successor DNREC Deputy Secretary Lisa Borin Ogden, who has served with him at DNREC since the early days of the Carney administration and been an integral part of the Department’s success during that time.




DNREC Cautions That Stricken Snow Geese Found Along Sussex Coast May Have Contracted Avian Influenza

DNREC announced that a number of snow geese found sick or dead Dec. 27 in coastal waters of Sussex County have been sent to the University of Delaware Poultry Health System laboratory to determine if they fell victim to the highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza (HPAI).

DNREC is again sponsoring the Delaware Center for Horticulture’s TreeCycle event that aims to make beneficial reuse of holiday trees by turning them into wood chips and mulch while also keeping the trees out of the state’s landfills. TreeCycle is a family-friendly recycling event to be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 4. DNREC continues encouraging Delawareans to dispose of their trees in such way that pays dividends to the environment.




2025 Delaware State Parks Annual Passes, Surf Fishing Permits to Go on Sale Dec. 3

DNREC announced that 2025 Delaware State Parks annual passes and surf fishing permits will go on sale starting at 8 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 3. and may be purchased at any state park office and at DNREC’s Dover campus Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Passes and permits may also be purchased online at destateparks.com/passes-permits-and-fees/, with gift-givers having the expectation that the passes and permits will be delivered by the holiday season.
