Division for the Visually Impaired to Host Town Hall Meeting July 16

Individuals with visual impairments and the general public will have another opportunity to give feedback to the Delaware Division for the Visually Impaired during a town hall meeting from 5:30-7:30 p.m. July 16 at the Holloway Campus near New Castle.




Free 2012-2013 Service Guide Now Available in Print and Online

The free “2012-2013 Guide to Services for Older Delawareans and Persons with Disabilities” is now available in print and online in both English and Spanish. The 294-page guide includes contact information for organizations and businesses in 29 service categories, including caregiving, financial assistance, home health care, housing options, transportation, medical and dental services, and volunteerism.




Delaware launches pilot EBT program at farmers’ markets

Clients of Delaware’s Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) program can now buy vegetables, fruit and other items with their benefit cards at several farmers’ markets.




Delaware SB 162: HIV Testing Now Standard

On National HIV Testing Day, Governor Jack Markell was joined by state officials, state legislators and HIV activists in Dover to sign Senate Bill 162, providing for routine HIV opt-out testing. SB 162 implements the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendation that HIV testing should be part of the standard battery of medical tests. The new rule will not only increase HIV testing, but help destigmatize such screenings and cement HIV testing’s place as part of regular medical care. The bill preserves the opportunity for patients to decline the testing as with most other medical tests.




Delaware Medicaid Program to Reimburse for Telemedicine-Delivered Services Beginning July 1

Beginning July 1, the Delaware Medical Assistance Program will reimburse for telemedicine-delivered services provided to Delaware Medicaid clients in order to improve access to behavioral health services and general health care services, including medical subspecialties not widely available in the state.
