Governor’s Weekly Message Transcript: Supporting Continued Job Growth in the First State

We continue to work through one of the most challenging economic periods in our history and we will never be satisfied as long as Delawareans are out of work. But job growth here is outpacing the nation and we have reasons to be optimistic about our future.




Sea Level Rise Awareness Week Sept. 14 – 22 encourages citizens to take actions to reduce impacts of sea level rise and climate change

At the DuPont Environmental Education Center on the Wilmington Riverfront, Governor Jack Markell, DNREC Secretary Collin O’Mara, EPA Region 3 Administrator Shawn M. Garvin, Delaware Nature Society Exec. Dir. Brian Winslow and Delaware Wild Lands Exec. Dir. Kate Hackett joined with environmental organizations to announce the kick-off of Delaware’s first Sea Level Rise Awareness Week, Sept. 14 – 22. The week of activities, being sponsored by 14 Delaware environmental advocacy groups, was organized to raise awareness and encourage citizens to take actions to help reduce the potential impacts of sea level rise and climate change.




Workers’ Compensation Task Force Reconvenes

As part of its recommendations, the task force suggested that it be kept in existence on a temporary basis, both to consider some issues that it did not have time to discuss during the short time that it had to make recommendations, and so that it can monitor the impact of its recommendations and suggest stricter measures with respect to medical costs if necessary.

Programs explore the First State’s rich Native-American heritage, shining a spotlight on the history and culture of the Lenape and Nanticoke Indian tribes.




Governor’s Weekly Message: Providing Employment Opportunities for Military Personnel

In his weekly message, Governor Markell highlights statewide efforts to secure employment opportunities for Delaware veterans and military personnel. Earlier this week, the Governor signed a proclamation declaring September as “Hire a Vet Month,” which encourages employers to hire those who serve(d) Delaware and the country in the armed forces.
