Three Delaware Schools Named 2023 National Blue Ribbon Schools

U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona today recognized 353 schools as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2023, including three schools in Delaware. The recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups on assessments.

The Delaware schools named as National Blue Ribbon Schools were:

Bear – Olive B. Loss Elementary School, Appoquinimink School District.
Newark – Thurgood Marshall Elementary School, Christina School District.
Ocean View – Lord Baltimore Elementary School, Indian River School District.




A Proactive Approach to a Healthy School Year

As summer comes to an end and a new school year begins, now is the time to remind local communities that continuing to protect ourselves against influenza, COVID-19, Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), and other infectious diseases is a powerful way to also support Delaware students and school staff.




DIAA Announces Student Athletic Awards

The DIAA Board of Directors’ is pleased to announce the winners of the 2023 DIAA/Harry Roberts-Senior Scholar Athlete awards. The award is named in recognition and memory of Dr. Harry Roberts, former superintendent of the Caesar Rodney School District who served DIAA on several committees, most notably as chair of the DIAA Sportsmanship Committee for many years.




Agriculture, Food and Natural Resource Students Take Home Awards from Delaware State Fair

Over 400 Delaware FFA members from across the state convened at the Delaware State Fairgrounds in July to participate in the Delaware State Fair. During the state fair, both high school and middle school members competed in career and leadership development events, exhibited livestock, assisted at various supporter food booths, in conjunction with the Delaware 4-H donated over 875 lbs. of produce to the Food Bank of Delaware, and were recognized for their efforts throughout the past year during the Annual Delaware FFA Fair Breakfast, sponsored by East Coast Seeds. High school members competed in 15 Career Development Events and middle school members competed in 12 Career Development events. See the top 10 individual results and top five team results.




DNREC to Offer ‘Life in the Bay’ Educational Youth Seining Program

DNREC invites families to participate in a new educational program called “Life in the Bay” geared toward children age 6 and older, as well as adults who want to learn about fish and other aquatic creatures that live in the Delaware Bay.
