Biden statement on federal indictment of David and Lenore Matusiewicz and Amy Matusiewic

Criminal Division | Department of Justice | Department of Justice Press Releases | Date Posted: Thursday, August 8, 2013

Trio charged with conspiracy and stalking in scheme that resulted in shooting deaths of Christine Belford and Laura Mulford

Wilmington – Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden issued the following statement today after the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Delaware announced that a federal criminal indictment has been secured charging David Matusiewicz, Lenore Matusiewicz, and Amy Gonzalez with stalking crimes in an effort to kill, injure, and harass Christine Belford, the former wife of David Matusiewicz.  Belford and her friend Laura Mulford were fatally shot in the lobby of the New Castle County Courthouse on February 11, 2013 as they arrived for a child support hearing in Family Court:

“Since their mother’s death we have remained deeply concerned that the children of Christine Belford were at risk of harm by members of the Matusiewicz family.  My office, along with other agencies, have taken multiple measures to ensure that the children are well cared for and that they remain safe and anonymous.  Sadly, the seriousness of the allegations in this week’s indictment, which resulted from an excellent joint state-federal investigation, reflect the validity of our grave concerns.  We are grateful that this indictment will help keep the children and our community safe and bring us another step closer to justice for Christine Belford and Laura Mulford.”
