The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating a structure fire that damaged a single family dwelling in Ellendale, Delaware on December 18, 2023.

The incident, reported shortly before 05:00 A.M. , occurred in the 18000 block of Fleatown Road, Ellendale, Delaware. The Ellendale Volunteer Fire Company arrived on the scene and found a small fire and structural damage in the area of a heating unit. Mutual aid fire companies assisted at the scene.

State fire investigators were called to the scene and performed an investigation to determine the origin and cause. The fire was determined to be Accidental in nature and was caused by a malfunction at a heating unit.

Damage is estimated at $10,000.00. The home was occupied at the time of the fire and the occupant escaped without injury after becoming aware of the fire. There were no other reported injuries.
