Delaware Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs to offer 16 special events during July 2014

Lecture/tours of the hull of the DeBraak, a shipwrecked 18th-century British warship, to return to Lewes, Del. beginning on June 2, 2014

Beginning on June 2, 2014, the Delaware Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs will again offer public lecture/tours of the hull of His Majesty’s Sloop DeBraak, a British warship that was escorting and protecting a convoy of British and American merchant ships en route to the United States when it was capsized and lost off the Delaware coast on May 25, 1798.

Programs to be held at the state of Delaware’s six museums. Highlights include Delaware’s Second Constitutional Convention, founding father Benjamin Rush and Separation Day.




“Starry Hospitality Night” on Dec. 5 kicks off Zwaanendael Museum’s seasonal programming

Holiday-themed program includes star-gazing in celebration of Delaware astronomer Annie Jump Cannon plus Bill Ayrey, lab manager and company historian from ILC Dover demonstrating the space suit that the company manufactures for NASA.




Civil rights, slavery and Delaware in the 1940s to be featured at the museums of the state of Delaware in January 2014

Ten special programs to be offered during the month.
