Hannah Sturgis to Represent Delaware in National Finals of Poetry Out Loud
The state Poetry Out Loud competition, sponsored by the Delaware Division of the Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, is part of a national program that encourages high school students to learn about great poetry through memorization, performance, and competition.
Seventeen High School Students Compete in 2015 Delaware Poetry Out Loud State Finals
Each of the seventeen participants will recite poetry that they have selected, studied, and practiced, representing more than 40 different poets including Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Lewis Carroll, Gwendolyn Brooks, Robert Frost and Emily Dickinson. The event is free and the public is invited to attend.
Kathleen Becker named Delaware’s Poetry Out Loud Champion
Becker, a senior from Red Lion Christian Academy, won Delaware’s Poetry Out Loud state competition on February 25, 2014, held at the Smyrna Opera House. She moves on to represent Delaware in the national finals in Washington, DC in April, 2014.
