Governor Signs Criminal Justice Reforms into Law

Joined by state legislators and leaders in the criminal justice community at a facility designed to serve ex-offenders, Governor Markell said reforms passed by lawmakers this year signify a new approach to addressing the many challenges related Delaware’s offender population. The new laws, most of which the Governor signed, will better ensure ex-offenders have a fair opportunity to earn a job when they’re released and improve sentencing policies.

“We can only reach our potential as a state if we maximize the potential of our people,” said Governor Markell. “While our work toward that goal never ends, we can be proud of the progress made toward that goal during the legislative season that ended this week. By spending taxpayers’ money wisely and keeping our focus on economic opportunity for all of our people, we’ll keep Delaware moving forward.”




Governor Announces Release of Draft Downtown Development District Application

After signing a Fiscal Year 2015 budget that fully funded the state’s new urban revitalization program, Governor Jack Markell announced the release of a draft application for cities, towns, and unincorporated areas to be designated among Delaware’s first Downtown Development Districts.




Delaware beaches again land distinction as No. 1 in nation

Putting it in World Series terms, Delaware has just made a “cleanest sweep,” for the fourth straight year capturing the crown for the country’s cleanest beach water quality.

Cape Henlopen State Park turns 50, and there will be plenty of activities to mark the milestone occasion.
