DNREC, federal, local and conservation partners gather to celebrate completion of Mispillion Harbor restoration

DNREC Secretary Shawn M. Garvin was joined by U.S. Senators Tom Carper and Chris Coons, and Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester to celebrate the completion of the Mispillion Harbor restoration. The three-year project restored the area in the wake of damage inflicted by a series of coastal storms including 2012’s Hurricane Sandy, and built resiliency against future storms impacting this vitally important habitat.




DNREC’s Division of Fish & Wildlife sets Saturday, May 5 training in Lewes for volunteer beachnesting bird monitors

Volunteers wanting to help protect Delaware’s endangered piping plovers and other beachnesting birds are invited to join DNREC’s Division of Fish & Wildlife monitoring team and attend a training session held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 5, at Cape Henlopen State Park’s Biden Environmental Training Center.




DNREC’s DuPont Nature Center to reopen April 4

The DuPont Nature Center at Mispillion Harbor Reserve, a DNREC Division of Fish & Wildlife facility located in the heart of Delaware’s Bayshore Region, will reopen Wednesday, April 4 after being closed for the winter.




DNREC announces the Point at Cape Henlopen to close March 1 for 2018 beachnesting season

The Point at Cape Henlopen State Park, including a stretch of ocean beach and dunes, and a half mile along the bay shoreline, will close beginning Thursday, March 1, for the benefit of threatened and endangered beachnesters and migratory shorebirds.




Stretches of ocean beach to reopen at DNREC’s Cape Henlopen State Park

DNREC announced today that stretches of ocean beach between Gordons Pond and Herring Point, and beachfront along the ocean side of The Point on Cape Henlopen, will reopen Sept. 1, following the conclusion of beachnesting bird season.
