Governor’s Weekly Message: Make Government More Transparent Through Lobbying Reform Bill

Governor Jack Markell talks about new legislation that would improve government transparency and citizens’ access to information by requiring that lobbyists specifically report on each piece of legislation, each area of the budget or the bond bill, or each proposed state agency regulation that they are lobbying to change and who they are talking with to try and make those changes.




Lobbying Disclosure Bill Shines Critical Sunlight on Lawmaking Process

A bill that would dramatically expand disclosure requirements for lobbyists was introduced today with broad bipartisan support. Governor Jack Markell joined Senate President Pro Tempore Tony DeLuca, House Speaker Bob Gilligan and legislators to introduce Senate Bill 185.




Legislative Study Group Issues Recommendations To Improve Child Mental Health Services

A special committee charged by the General Assembly with assessingchild mental health services in Kent and Sussex County, with a focus on child victims of sexual assault, delivered its findings and recommendations today. The recommendations include the recruitment of new mental health professionals to Sussex County, training for clinicians in detection and treatment of trauma in children, and improved case management of mental health services for children.




Commissioner Stewart Makes Key Appointments to the Department of Insurance

Delaware Insurance Commissioner Karen Weldin Stewart announces the appointments of two key positions in the Delaware Department of Insurance. Paul Reynolds, a native Delawarean who graduated from Salesianum School and attended the University of Delaware, comes to the Insurance Department after 35 years of service working for New Castle County Government. During his career, Reynolds held numerous administrative and managerial positions. In November of 2011, Mr. Reynolds was tapped by Commissioner Stewart to be the Chief of Staff for the Department.




Delaware Tourism Industry Study Results

A study was conducted by D.K.Shifflet & Associates Ltd. and Vantage Strategy, a research firm and consulting firm respectively, to determine the economic impact of tourism in the State of Delaware.
