A Magnolia man has been sentenced by a Superior Court judge for continuous sexual abuse of a child. Emmanuel Wright, 20, engaged in a pattern of sexual and physical abuse began when the victim was 12 years old and continued for approximately 2 years until Wright was arrested in late 2018. An investigation found Wright repeatedly and frequently sexually abused her, physically assaulted her, and attempted to persuade her to hide evidence of the abuse from her mother and from medical professionals. He was sentenced to a total of 9 years in prison on charges of Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child and 3 counts of Dangerous Acts against a Child and will be required to register as a Tier 3 sex offender. Deputy Attorney General Kevin Smith prosecuted the case with assistance from DOJ social worker Lorraine Freese. Detective Jennifer Buzzuro of the Delaware State Police Major Crimes Unit investigated.

An 18-year-old man has pleaded guilty to a 2017 homicide. On July 28, 2017, David Bailey was found unconscious and bleeding from a gunshot wound at the intersection of Beech Street and South Van Buren Street in Wilmington. Bailey was later pronounced dead at Christiana Hospital. While police were investigating the crime scene, Aaron Miles walked into St. Francis Hospital with a gunshot wound, where he provided hospital staff and law enforcement with an alias. Officers determined Miles’ identity and, based on surveillance video and other evidence, identified him as Bailey’s shooter. Miles pleaded guilty in Superior Court to Murder Second Degree and will be sentenced by a Superior Court judge in November. The investigation was headed by Wilmington Police Department Detective Mackenzie Kirlin.  Deputy Attorneys General Periann Doko and Will Raisis secured this plea with assistance from social worker Claudia Melton and special Investigator Cliff Dempsey.

A Elsmere man has been sentenced for rape, strangulation, and resisting arrest. During a January argument in New Castle, Justin Stetter, 22, hit, bit and strangled his then-girlfriend before forcing her into the backseat of their car and sexually assaulting her. Stetter pleaded guilty to Rape Fourth Degree, Strangulation, and Resisting Arrest. He was sentenced by a Superior Court judge to 5 years in prison, followed by 18 months of probation. He will be required to register as a Tier 2 sex offender, complete a certified domestic violence course, and undergo mental health and substance abuse evaluations and any resultant treatments. Deputy Attorney General Dominic Carrera prosecuted the case with assistance from DOJ social workers Claudia Melton and Stacey L . Murphy. Detective Timothy Collins and Officer Lewis Martin of the New Castle County Police Department investigated.
