A Millsboro man has been sentenced following trial to 17.5 years in prison for multiple convictions, including Manslaughter, stemming from a fatal crash that took three lives and severely injured four others.

On January 17, Jason Wilcox, 48, was sentenced in Sussex County Superior Court to 23 years in prison for convictions of Leaving the Scene of a Collision Resulting in Death, Failure to Report a Collision Resulting in Injury or Death, Assault Third Degree, Speeding, four counts of Assault First Degree and three counts of Manslaughter. The sentence follows an investigation into a fatal hitandrun collision that claimed the lives of Gerald Huss, Jessica Guida, and Jovie Wright in 2022.

“This case was gut-wrenching – not just as a prosecutor, but as a mother and grandmother,” said Attorney General Kathy Jennings. “Nobody can imagine the grief these families have experienced losing three loved ones in one horrific night. The defendant’s callousness in fleeing from the suffering he caused, without so much as calling for help, is outrageous. I am deeply grateful to our trial team and to the Delaware State Police for their work in holding this man accountable. My heart is with the family today.”

On December 24, 2022, Jason Wilcox drove his SUV along Lewes-Georgetown Highway (Route 9), a roadway with a posted speed limit of 50 miles per hour. Wilcox approached the intersection of Minos Conaway Road and struck a minivan carrying a family of seven while traveling between 79 and 85 miles per hour, according to his vehicle’s Event Data Reader. Gerald Huss, 74, Jessica Guida, 35, and Jovie Wright, 9, were killed in the crash, while four survivors were injured, three of them severely.

After his vehicle came to rest, Wilcox walked past the victims and left them bleeding and fled the scene without reporting the collision or calling emergency services for help. He later lied to police during their investigation and provided a false alibi for his location at the time of the collision. Wilcox then attempted to flee and evade arrest when police identified him as the suspect the following day.
