Natural Resources Police officers made 3,720 contacts with anglers, boaters and the general public between July 10-16, including 413 vessel boardings for boating safety and fishing regulation compliance checks, issuing 62 citations.




DNREC closes recreational shellfish harvest in north Delaware Bay due to undertreated wastewater from Kent County treatment plant

Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control Secretary Shawn M. Garvin today directed the Kent County wastewater treatment plant to take immediate action to correct an ongoing discharge of undertreated effluent that prompted the Secretary to issue an emergency order for the closure of recreational shellfishing in the Delaware Bay north of the entrance to the Mispillion Inlet. The emergency closure impacts only the harvest of bivalve molluscan shellfish – clams, oysters and mussels – and does not affect the legal harvest of other shellfish species such as crabs and conchs.




Alapocas Run State Park’s Can-Do Playground to celebrate 10th anniversary

DNREC’s Division of Parks & Recreation and the Wilmington Area Rotary Club’s Community Fund will host a 10th anniversary celebration of the Can-Do Playground in Alapocas Run State Park from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday, July 15. The celebration, open to the public, will feature family-friendly activities, including a “Nature on the Go” cart and the Brandywine Traveling Zoo, along with free giveaways for the first 200 guests.

DNREC Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police arrested two New Castle County men June 24, following an investigation into multiple crabbing and crab pot theft violations that occurred on Herring Creek in Sussex County.
