Following efforts by the Governor and legislators to address the transparency and efficiency of Delaware elections, the Senate today passed House Substitute 1 to House Bill 302—a bill that will create a more unified and efficient structure for conducting elections, while making it easier to report and investigate campaign finance violations.




Governor Signs Legislation Creating a Division of Forensic Science

Following a 35 – 4 vote in the House, Governor Markell signed Senate Bill 241 into law today setting up the Division of Forensic Science to take over the operations previously conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Climate change threatens the future we want for ourselves and for generations to come. Rising sea levels along with more powerful and frequent storms like Hurricane Irene and Superstorm Sandy put Delaware families and businesses at risk. Our largest industry – agriculture – faces severe conditions that harm crops. We know we can’t afford to see what happens next before we act. So we’re limiting future damage by nourishing beaches, repairing dikes and dams, and modernizing stormwater infrastructure. But we must also address the root causes of climate change and that means reducing carbon pollution from our power plants – the largest source of dirty emissions.




EPA Highlights Delaware as Model for Reducing Power Plant Pollution

Visiting a natural gas facility construction site adjacent to a utility-scale solar plant that represents part of Delaware’s effective effort to reduce power industry pollution, Governor Markell, Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Gina McCarthy, and Delaware Secretary of Natural Resources and Environmental Control Collin O’Mara emphasized the environmental, health, and economic benefits of the EPA’s just-released plan to dramatically cut the nation’s carbon emissions and combat the effects of climate change.
