PURPLE HEART MEDALDover – The 147th General Assembly passes House Joint Resolution No. 8, proclaiming Delaware as a Purple Heart State to honor the service and sacrifice of our Nation’s men and women who served in the U.S. Armed Forces and were wounded or killed during enemy action while protecting the freedoms enjoyed by all Americans.

The Joint Resolution was sponsored by Representative Brady on behalf of all Representatives and Senator Bruce Ennis for all members of the Senate. The Resolution was carried with all members of the House and Senate voting in favor of the proclamation.

Representative Brady introduced the outgoing Commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart Richard M. Magner and their new Commander Gary “Mo” Morris. Commander Morris and Commander Magner are former members of the Delaware Commission of Veterans Affairs.

The Purple Heart Medal is the oldest military decoration still in use, and the first award made available for the common soldier. Delaware is the fifteenth State to be recognized as a Purple Heart State.
