Delaware Veterans’ Stand Down: Sept. 23, 2016

Kent County | New Castle County | News | Office of Veterans Services | Sussex County | Date Posted: Thursday, September 8, 2016

When/Where: Friday, September 23rd, 2016 @ 9:00am – 3:00pm. Located at Walter L. Fox Post #2, American Legion, 835 Bay Road, Dover, DE  19901

You are cordially invited to attend the Delaware Veterans Stand Down. The opening ceremony is to begin at 9:00am. The intent of the day’s event is to share camaraderie with our Veterans and for many to rekindle old friendships while adding a hand up to those in need.

When Delaware Veterans find themselves homeless; there are emergency shelters, transitional houses and supportive housing available. However, Delaware’s homeless housing assistance programs find themselves at full capacity on a nightly basis, making it difficult for homeless persons to find housing. In addition, Delaware’s unemployment rate is currently at 4.9%. With the assistance of the Department of Labor and the Delaware Joining Forces, we hope that the unemployment rate will continue to decline. There are over ninety Federal, State and local agencies that will be on hand to assist with ongoing issues.

The one day event will begin with transportation provided by the VA Hospital at Elsmere. They will be transporting veterans from the north, at the Acme parking lot, transporting veterans from Smyrna and in Georgetown, Seaford and Harrington at specified times. (Below is a more detailed schedule). Once you arrive to the event, the Registration Chair, Ms. Anna Lopez and her team will welcome you, veterans’ guests, elected officials and service organization members. The registration team will ensure you have the necessary resources and information for the entire event. Please come join us to support all our Delaware Veterans!
