DNREC produces wetlands report card on Leipsic River Watershed’s health and management recommendations

DNREC’s Wetland Monitoring and Assessment Program announced that its final report on the health of wetlands located in Kent County’s Leipsic River Watershed and Little Creek area – the eighth in a series of watershed-specific wetland health reports – has been given a C+ grade for their current condition, with opportunity for improvement.

The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control will showcase exhibits highlighting air quality monitoring and home energy savings at the 15th annual New Castle Avenue Health Hook-Up Community Day on Tuesday, June 27 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Bowlerama and Canaan Baptist Church parking lots located at 3031 New Castle Avenue in New Castle.




Delaware’s 2017 horseshoe crab commercial fishery to close June 22, with harvest quota reached

DNREC’s Division of Fish & Wildlife announced today that Delaware’s 2017 commercial harvest quota of 162,136 male horseshoe crabs has been met, and that the horseshoe crab fishery will close at 12:01 a.m., Thursday, June 22 in accordance with Delaware law and regulations. The fishery will remain closed the rest of the year.
