A Sussex County Judge has found a Millsboro man guilty of murder. On November 17, 2016, a passerby discovered Darrin Gibbs of Millsboro lying face down on Monroe Street with a gunshot wound to the back of his head. Witness testimony, ballistics evidence, and video surveillance ultimately identified one of Gibbs’ associates, A.J. McMullen, as the shooter. Investigators discovered that McMullen committed the murder to prevent Gibbs from talking about a robbery that McMullen committed against a drug dealer.  McMullen was found guilty in a bench trial of Murder 1st Degree and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony and will be sentenced in February. Deputy Attorneys General David Hume and Georgia Pham prosecuted the case. Delaware State Police Homicide Detective Mark Csapo was the Chief Investigating Officer.  They were assisted by DOJ Social Worker Monserrat Matos and Paralegal Kristan Hudson.

A Bridgeville man was sentenced to life plus 30 years for the murder of Corey Bailey. On May 11, 2018 Bailey was approached by two men who shot him multiple times before fleeing. Witnesses and an anonymous tip identified one of the shooters as McArthur Risper, 30, of Bridgeville. The second shooter’s identity is the subject of an ongoing investigation. Risper was found guilty of Murder 1st Degree, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, and Conspiracy 1st Degree. Deputy Attorneys General Mike Tipton and Haley King secured this sentence.
