Millsboro Fire

The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating a residential structure fire that was reported on December 7, 2024 shortly before 6:00 PM in the 22000 block of Westwoods Road Millsboro, Delaware.

The Gumboro Volunteer Fire Company and assisting mutual aid fire companies arrived on scene and found heavy flames coming from a single – story dwelling. The house was occupied at the time of the fire and a female occupant had to be removed from the structure by neighbors. The female occupant was transported to Tidal Health Peninsula Regional Hospital by ambulance in serious condition due to injuries sustained from the fire.

Delaware Deputy State Fire Marshal’s responded to the scene and conducted an origin and cause investigation. It was determined that the fire originated at the front porch area of the structure. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damage is estimated at $200,000.

UPDATE: The female victim transported from the fire on December 7, 2024 succumbed to her injuries on December 9, 2024. The Victim is identified as Donna Jackson, age 63 of Bridgeville, Delaware. The dwelling was equipped with working smoke alarms. This brings the total of fire deaths in the State to 15 for 2024. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
