Elsmere Fire

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office has determined that the fire located in Elsmere, DE. was accidental.

On Wednesday July 23, 2025, the Elsmere Fire Company was alerted to a reported house fire in the 100 block of Elizabeth Avenue, in the Roselle Neighborhood. Upon arrival the Fire Department found smoke and fire coming from the rear of the residence. There were also reports of a person still being inside of the residence. Several Fire Companies were called to assist with extinguishment and the search for the resident. The resident was located and sustained smoke inhalation.

Deputy Fire Marshal’s were called to the scene to investigate the cause and origin of the fire. It was determined that the fire was caused by discarded smoking materials on a second-floor deck igniting combustible materials.

Damage is estimated at 75,000 dollars. One male resident was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation by New Castle County Paramedics and transported to ChristianaCare Emergency Department by Fire Department EMS. The Red Cross of Delmarva was notified for the remaining residents.
