The Third Annual Recycled Cardboard Boat Regatta – presented by the Delaware Nature Society’s Abbott’s Mill Nature Center, in conjunction with DNREC’s Division of Watershed Stewardship’s Reclaim Our River Program (ROR), the Town of Blades, the Nanticoke River Sail & Power Squadron, the Nanticoke Watershed Alliance, and the Nanticoke Yacht Club – cast off with great ceremony Saturday, Aug. 6 at the Nanticoke River Public Marine Park in Blades and finished as the most entertaining race yet in the increasingly popular event’s brief history.

The state has addedd 48 acres of pristine woodlands along a tributary of the Nanticoke River in Sussex County to the Nanticoke Wildlife Area. The property features increasingly rare stands of Atlantic white cedar trees and an abundance of native wildlife, including some species of conservation concern.

DOVER (Aug. 9, 2016) – Delaware has again taken action to reduce air quality and public health impacts from upwind sources through a DNREC petition asking the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to find that the Harrison Power Station near Haywood, W. Va., with its three large coal-fired electric generating units, is emitting air pollutants in violation of the federal Clean Air Act (CAA) and National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) for harmful ozone.

DNREC’s “Take a Kid Fishing!” program is partnering with City of Dover Parks & Recreation on Friday, Aug. 26 to provide budding anglers age 6 through 15 and their parent/guardian an opportunity to come out and learn to fish from 5-7:30 p.m. at Dover’s Silver Lake Park.

BEAR (Aug. 5, 2016) – DNREC’s Division of Parks & Recreation and Go Ape, billed as “the nation’s premier Treetop Adventure company,” have announced the addition of a Treetop Junior course to its already-popular Go Ape course at Lums Pond State Park. Planned to open in late summer.
