Wilmington, DE – In his weekly message, Governor Markell reminds Delawareans that with more people on the move this time of year the holiday season brings increased dangers of driving-related accidents from impaired and distracted driving, and he shares simple precautions everyone should take to stay safe on our roadways.

As Delawareans observe the holidays and look ahead to a new year they have many reasons to celebrate, and zero reasons to drive distracted or to get behind the wheel after drinking. So far this year 116 people have lost their lives on our roadways, including 40 whose deaths involved impaired driving or an impaired pedestrian. Each one is a tragedy that leaves behind a family who is hurting this holiday season. And they’re stark reminders of how important it is to remain alert and sober when driving and walking along our roads.
