DPH Encourages Residents to Prepare for Dangerously High Temperatures, Take Steps to Prevent Heat Illness as Temperatures Soar

With temperatures expected to reach the mid-to-high 90s and heat index values ranging from 100 to 105 degrees later this week, the Division of Public Health (DPH) encourages Delaware residents to prepare for extreme heat and take steps to prevent heat illness as temperatures rise. The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for New Castle County and an Excessive Heat Advisory for Kent and Sussex counties between 11:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., Thursday, July 13.

Delaware Cancer Mortality Drops Again; Public Health Releases Latest Cancer Report

Cancer screening and early detection have contributed to a continuing decline in Delaware’s all-site cancer mortality rate over the past decade, say Delaware Public Health officials. From 1999-2003 to 2009-2013, Delaware’s cancer death rate decreased 15 percent, an improvement that was slightly higher than the decline seen nationally (14 percent), according to the latest cancer data announced by the Division of Public Health (DPH).
