Delaware Office of Highway Safety Puts Together a Winning Team at the Monster Mile to Promote Drive Sober

The Delaware Office of Highway Safety (OHS) has an action packed weekend (Sept. 27-29) at the Monster Mile reminding fans to Drive Sober and Arrive Alive. On Friday September 27th, OHS is the title sponsor for the ‘Drive Sober 150’ NASCAR K&N Pro Series East with Grand Marshalls- Bill and Muriel Elliott of the HERO Campaign for Designated Drivers and Sgt. Andrew Rubin of Newark PD waving the green flag. OHS is also teamed up with #96 Ben Kennedy and Ben Kennedy Racing for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race in the ‘Drive Sober 150’.




DUI Checkpoints Friday Sept. 20th

A total of eighty-six (86) people were arrested statewide last week for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) of alcohol and/or drugs. Of those 86 individuals, four (4) were arrested at a DUI checkpoint on Friday Sept. 13th in Wilmington that was conducted by the New Castle County DUI Task Force. Statewide, there have been 2,989 DUI arrests made in Delaware this year.




Raymond W. Holcomb Named Delaware Homeland Security Advisor

Lewis D. Schiliro, Delaware’s Secretary of Safety and Homeland Security, announced the appointment of Raymond W. Holcomb as the Department’s Homeland Security Advisor. Holcomb will oversee State homeland security projects working to ensure that all counter-terrorism measures are utilized to protect the people of Delaware.

It’s not always easy to know how to correctly secure children in car seats in all types of vehicles. Three out of four parents in Delaware do not install their child’s car seat properly. So one week each year, Delaware and the rest of the nation celebrate National Child Passenger Safety Awareness Week. This special week, September 15th – 21st, is dedicated to promoting the correct and consistent use of child safety seats. Children using incorrectly installed car seats face dramatically increased rates of death and injury in the event of a crash.
