Scuse Has Always Hung His Hat Up In Delaware

Unlike Toby Keith’s song, Should’ve Been a Cowboy, Michael T. Scuse truly is Delaware’s cowboy. Growing up on his family farm in Smyrna, his love for the land is in his blood. Combined with his skill in riding Paint horses, sporting cowboy boots and his black cowboy hat, and his values which align with the cowboy code of conduct, Scuse has significantly impacted Delaware agriculture throughout his lifetime. When Governor Minner nominated Scuse to serve as Delaware’s ninth Secretary of Agriculture in 2001, she saw potential when perhaps he only had a “dream in his eye and a prayer in his heart.” But no matter where life has taken him, Secretary of Agriculture Michael T. Scuse has always hung his hat up in his home state of Delaware, fighting to ensure agriculture remains Delaware’s top industry.



Rooted in Tradition: 160 Delaware Farms Celebrate Over 100 Years

Secretary of Agriculture Michael T. Scuse and state legislators inducted five Delaware farms into the Century Farm Program today, honoring the farm families’ commitment to keeping farmland within the family for 100 years.



Delaware Officials Unveil New Sign to Celebrate Delaware’s Agricultural Lands Preservation Program

Governor John Carney and Delaware Secretary of Agriculture Michael T. Scuse, along with members of the General Assembly, the Aglands Preservation Board of Trustees, and other agricultural advocates, joined together at Shadybrook Farms, home of the Cartanza family, to unveil a new farm sign celebrating Delaware’s Agricultural Lands Preservation Program.



Carney Administration Prioritizes Farmland Preservation, Preserving Highest Number of Farms

The Delaware Department of Agriculture announced the 28th round of easement selections by the Delaware Agricultural Lands Preservation, preserving 40 farms and 2,262 acres of farmland. With this announcement, the Carney administration has preserved 403 farms, the highest number in the program’s history.



Delaware Children Wish Smokey Bear Happy 80th Birthday at Dover Public Library

More than 100 Delawareans, from newborns to seniors, attended story time at the Dover Public Library to wish Smokey Bear a happy 80th birthday on August 9, which marks Smokey’s official birthday.
