Department of Agriculture protects animal health at Delaware State Fair

As more than 3,000 animals are carried, carted, hauled, led and ridden into the Delaware State Fair fairgrounds next week, each will get a personal welcome from a Delaware Department of Agriculture animal health inspector. It’s part of the behind-the-scenes work of the Poultry and Animal Health Section to protect the health of every chicken, horse, pony, rabbit, goat, sheep, duck, cow, pig and goat arriving at the fair.




Multiple Agency Effort to Fight Violence in Wilmington Gun Violence Reduction Initiative Launches

To help address the recent rise in gun violence affecting some communities within the city of Wilmington, major law enforcement agencies in Delaware are working together to launch a special gun violence reduction effort with a collective focus on the most violent offenders.

Second annual home-brew beer competition set for Delaware State Fair

More than 300 bottles of home-brewed beer will compete for top honors next week as part of the Second Annual Battle of the Brews at the Delaware State Fair, sponsored by the Delaware Department of Agriculture. The July 21 event is Delaware’s only Beer Judge Certification Program-sanctioned event, where professional judges rate the work of home brewing enthusiasts in the First State.




Carper, Coons, Carney break ground on the Michael N. Castle Trail at the C&D Canal

U.S. Senators Tom Carper and Chris Coons, and U.S. Rep. John Carney joined federal, state and local officials to announce the naming of the Michael N. Castle Trail at the C&D Canal. Monday also marked the groundbreaking of the first phase of the approximately 16-mile long shared-use recreational trail along the north side of the C&D Canal. The trail will create safe new recreational opportunities along the canal where people can hike, bicycle, jog, skate, bird watch and ride horses.
